Artex Ceiling Plastering in Witney and Oxfordshire

Artex ceilings were popular in the 1970s and 80s, but many homeowners now prefer a clean, modern finish. I offer a safe and effective way to update these ceilings by covering or overboarding the Artex before applying a smooth plaster finish.

Because older Artex can sometimes contain small amounts of asbestos, all work is carried out with care and attention to safety.

Safe Options for Covering Artex Ceilings

In most cases, I recommend overboarding Artex ceilings with 12.5 mm plasterboard. This avoids disturbing the existing surface and reduces the risk associated with asbestos. If there is any uncertainty, I ask the client to arrange an asbestos test before work begins.

Once the new plasterboard is fitted, all joints are scrim taped and the ceiling is finished with two coats of multi-finish plaster, leaving a smooth, modern surface ready for decorating.

Moisture Boards, Fire Boards and Soundproofing

Different rooms require different types of plasterboard, and I always use the most suitable material for each job:

  • Bathrooms: moisture-resistant green board
  • Utility rooms: fire-resistant board
  • Soundproofing: soundboard for reducing noise transfer through walls or ceilings

These boards are then fully plastered to the same high standard, providing a durable finish that suits the purpose of each room.

I have completed Artex covering and plastering work across Oxfordshire, including Banbury, Chipping Norton, Burford, Kidlington, Carterton, Faringdon, Abingdon and Witney.
