Damp Plaster Repairs and Damp Proofing in Witney and Oxfordshire
Damp problems are common in older homes throughout Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds. When damp patches appear on walls, the only effective long-term solution is to remove the affected plaster, treat the exposed brick or stonework and then re-plaster the wall using the correct materials.
I carry out damp plaster repairs on all types of properties, from stone cottages to Victorian homes, ensuring the wall is properly treated before being finished to a smooth, clean standard.
How Damp Plaster Repairs Are Carried Out
When damp plaster is present, the first step is to hack off all affected plaster back to the brick or stonework, usually up to around one metre high. This allows the wall to breathe and ensures all damaged material is removed.
Once exposed, the wall is left to dry naturally, which may take one to two weeks depending on the property. After drying, the wall is treated with PVA and an SBR and cement slurry, which seals the surface and helps prevent further moisture penetration.
The wall is then floated level using sand and cement, bonding or hardwall, depending on the type of substrate and surrounding plaster. Finally, the entire area is finished with two coats of multi-finish plaster for a clean, smooth result ready for painting.
Damp Work on Older and Stone Properties
Many older homes, particularly stone cottages, suffer from damp penetration through the external walls. I regularly carry out this type of repair, including recent projects in Stow-on-the-Wold, Burford, Charlbury, Kennington, Wantage, Botley, Freeland, Woodstock and several Cotswold villages.
By removing the damaged plaster, treating the stonework properly and applying the correct materials, the wall can be restored to a solid and long-lasting condition.

Damp Proofing and Repair FAQs
How do I know if my wall needs damp repair?
Signs include bubbling paint, crumbling plaster, tide marks or damp patches that keep returning. In most cases, the plaster must be removed and the wall treated properly.
How long does the wall need to dry before re-plastering?
It usually takes one to two weeks, depending on the level of moisture and the type of wall. I will advise on drying times after the old plaster is removed.
Do you work on stone cottages or older properties?
Yes. I regularly carry out damp repairs on stone and period properties across Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds using the correct materials for each type of wall.
